BRUNSWICK — Vox Nova Chamber Choir will hold auditions by appointment throughout June and July. Vox Nova Chamber Choir, founded in 2009 by Director Shannon Chase and singer Karen Topp, is comprised of faculty and alumni of Bowdoin College as well as members of the Midcoast, Central and Southern Maine musical communities.

A mixed choir of 32-38 voices, Vox Nova Chamber Choir is best known for adventurous programming and its resonant, sleek sound. A champion of the expansive body of modern and contemporary choral music, Vox Nova Chamber Choir introduces its audiences to new and explorative elements of music and sound each season.

Ongoing commitment to and participation in the ensemble is expected of new members joining the choir. A chamber-sized group succeeds when singers develop social rapport, communication and ensemble musicianship among the other singers in the choir. Therefore, new members are screened carefully and interviewed according to their level of dedication to choral singing, interest in modern and contemporary a cappella choral repertoire, and in singing within a chamber-sized choir versus a large ensemble of 60 or more singers who perform major works accompanied by orchestra. While membership in the choir remains relatively consistent season to season, there are typically two to four openings for new voices each year.

Auditions will be held in Brunswick and Rockport.
