DEAR SUN SPOTS: I keep seeing Great Escapes Tours advertised frequently in the Sun Journal with some wonderful and reasonably priced upcoming tours.

Before I book with them, I would like to know if anyone else has ever traveled with them and if I can get a reference about their trips.

I believe this company used to be Tour BUSters out of the Falmouth-Cumberland area. — Nans2008@live.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots called Tour BUSters, where the owner, Barry, told her he is phasing out Tour BUSters. Great Escape Tours is a new business he also owns.

Sun Spots found some reviews for Tour BUSters online, but nothing for Great Escapes. Readers?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We would be lost without the information you provide!

I am looking for day and multi-day bus trips leaving from Lewiston-Auburn area. From time to time, I see trips advertised but don’t really know what other companies are offering trips.

We don’t have any special area in mind. We are just a couple of seniors who want to get away from time to time and leave the driving to someone else.

We would prefer that the bus leave from the Lewiston-Auburn area or pick up in this area.

Thank you so much for all you do! — No Name via email

ANSWER: In addition to Great Escapes Tours (207-829-3676, www.greatescape.info) mentioned in the first letter, Northeast Charter and Tour Co. (207-784-1359, 235 Goddard Road, Lewiston, www.northeastchartertour.com) also offers trips, often to casinos.

Senior citizen groups are another good source for bus trips. One group is particularly active and recently ran the following announcement in the Sun Journal (on the Connections page, usually B3):

“The Meadowview Senior Complex has three day trips for adults with Bert Dutil as escort left for the season.

“Wednesday, July 16: Market Basket, Biddeford; Bon-Ton Department Store, Maine Mall; Land’s End gift and souvenir store; lunch at Cook’s Lobster House at Bailey Island on your own. Leaving at 9 a.m. $35.

“Sunday, Sept. 7: Musical, “Witches of Eastwick,” Ogunquit Professional Playhouse, refreshments at the Gazebo and garden, lunch at a Route 1 restaurant on your own, possible stop at a mall which has a Reny’s store. $82.

“Saturday, Nov. 15: White Mountains, N.H., stop at the Christmas Loft, Christmas meal and show at Beacon Resort. $68.

“For more information or to reserve a space, call Bert at 786-2305.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to hear from anyone who would like items leftover from our church yard sale on June 14. Please call 207-785-2759. Leave a message if no answer. I will call back. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots gets this request frequently, but as far as she knows, no one ever responds. If there is a group that picks up the remains from sales, please let Sun Spots know.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Turner Museum and Historical Association is looking for a few guys who rollerskated or spent time at Bear Pond Park in Turner in the 1950s and ’60s to be on our 4th of July parade float in Turner.

If you still have your skates, that would be great. If not, we would still love to have you.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and lasts about an hour. You would still have most of your day to be with your families. For more information, email me. I hope to hear from some of you. — Roxanne Tremblay, btrem@aol.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots highly recommends supplying a phone number for requests. Many of her readers don’t have (or want to use) computers.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for mahjong players in the Rumford area. I’d like to join a group or even substitute. I have my own mahjong set and wouldn’t mind hosting a game at my house. Thank you. — Rita Laurinaitis, Rumford, 207-364-4759

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the May 24th edition of the Sun Journal there was a picture of two veterans who were brothers and one of their wives.

I was a classmate of Learned and have been trying to get in touch with him. I would like to ask Dianne or Paul Kimball to contact me so that I can contact Learned Kimball.

Thanks for all you do. Kindness does count. — Charles Day 207-562-4610, mainer63@verizon.net
