RANGELEY — At a special meeting Monday, the Board of Selectmen began the process of searching for a new town manager.

Town Manager Tiki White will step down to prepare for the birth of her first child. She said because of the new responsibility, she prefers to go back to her old position as assistant to the town manager.

The board chose to shift White from assistant to the full manager last year.

Present at the board’s invitation was Michael C. Wing from Human Resources/Labor Relations Consulting Services. Wing has consulted for previous Rangeley town manager searches.

Board Chairman Dave Burgess recommended a July 6 deadline for applications. Wing will forward the applications of the top 10 candidates for a discussion before the July 15 regular meeting.

The board will narrow its choices to one or two candidates, who will be called in for preliminary interviews. Wing will conduct background checks on the candidates, while the Rangeley Police Department will conduct criminal background checks.

Wing said that after a second interview, either he or the town’s attorney can draw up a contract for the board’s final choice.

Wing and Selectman Gary Shaffer estimated the cost for the advertising to total less than $2,000.
