The erection or a four-room, modern brick school building, at a cost of probably $16,000, at the corner of Central Avenue and Vale streets, is the desire of the Lewiston school board and it is likely that such a request will be made of the city fathers. Following an investigation of conditions at the so-called Davis Corner school building, at the corner of Sabatis street at East Avenue, it is the feeling that the only practical way to cope with the problem is to erect a new building. This year at Davis Corner 67 pupils have been enrolled, more than the building can comfortably accommodate, and inquiry shows that at least 80 will seek admission in the primary grade alone this coming September.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is being offered Androscoggin County’s artists, both amateur and professional, on Saturday, June 27, at Colby College, when outstanding authorities in the world of art, a small group that includes Andrew Wyeth who, at the present time, is THE big name in the art world, will judge work entered at Colby for the day. This unbelievable opportunity for Androscoggin County artists, be they of professional status or simply “Sunday painters,” is made possible by the Androscoggin Historical Society.

An increasing number of “for lease” signs are dotting Lewiston-Auburn’s office market, but builders and brokers say the area does not face a glut despite more than four major developments in progress. Vacancies in downtown Lewiston and Auburn offer a range of options from central air conditioning and elevators to low-budget walk-ups, while new developments and renovations are adding to the upper end of that range. Despite the new construction, however, the situation has yet to mirror Portland, where prices have been driven down by an overbuilt market.
