LEWISTON — YWCA Summer Swim lessons will begin the week of June 23.

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children ages 1-4 and the second leading cause for kids under the age of 14. Stay safe this summer and sign up for swim lessons today. Details of times may be found at www.ywcamaine.org or by calling the YWCA at 795-4050.

The YWCA is offering a two-week mini session Aug. 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 for Advanced Polliwog and Tadpole (ages 5-15). It is $60 for this one-hour class (six lessons).

Water babies, Puddle Jumpers and Parent & Tot classes are available for children ages 6 months through 35 months. These are water adjustment classes. Parents accompany their child in the water. YWCA staff will help parents select the appropriate class and there are many time slots during the week.

Aquatots, Guppies, Jellyfish, Advanced Jellyfish, Polliwog and Tadpole classes are all designed to help children ages 3 to 15 learn and develop the skills to become proficient swimmers. Again, classes are paced for the age and ability level of each child and YWCA staff will help parents decide on the most appropriate level for their child.

American Red Cross Water Safety classes for stroke development, stroke refinement and fitness are also offered to youths.

Adult lessons are for those 15 and older who have never had swimming lesson or are still working on beginner strokes.

Private swim lessons are also available by appointment.
