NORWAY — The Alan Day Community Garden will hold its second annual summer fundraiser “Light the Garden,” from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the garden, 26 Whitman St., across from the Norway Grange.

The event will celebrate the culmination and mark the end of a month-long online silent auction. The auction will be up and running until 8 p.m. during Light the Garden. There are gift certificates from local businesses, massages, jewelry, art, vacation rentals and piano lessons. It also includes an original signed photograph by Alan Day. The auction is available to everyone online at alandaygarden.wordpress.com.

The Mission of the Alan Day Community Garden is to cooperatively create an educational demonstration garden where people can grow their own food using organic, sustainable methods to support an enduring community food system. The Alan Day Community Garden offers free workshops, employs youth leaders, and rents garden plots to anyone who would like to garden. Created in 2009 to honor the memory of local philanthropist and artist, Alan Day, it is a 501c3 organization that accepts tax-deductible donations.

Light the Garden will include food, drink, music, candlelight, garden tours and great conversation. Music by the Northside Ramblers will highlight the evening, and Chinese sky lanterns will be lit and released at 9 p.m. Tickets will be sold in advance at Books N Things or at the event on a sliding scale of $10-$25.
