MEXICO — Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said Friday afternoon that the Police Department purchased a new side-by-side ATV to assist in making rescues, transporting prisoners and collecting evidence.

The 800cc machine was purchased for $9,100 through Roland’s Automotive.

“Having this type of ATV is going to make our missions a lot easier,” Hodsdon said. “The ATV is multi-functional, so we can use it if we have to collect evidence on a trail in the woods or if we have to transport a prisoner from the woods back to the station. With our old ATV, doing things like that wouldn’t have been as easy.”

Hodsdon said grant money and $1,500 from selling the old 2003 Arctic Cat paid for the new ATV.

“That was our oldest vehicle in the fleet, and was just costing more and more money each year to repair,” Hodsdon said. “This new ATV is going to be a huge help for us.”

The Board of Selectmen approved the purchase June 10.
