1921 – 2014

LEWISTON — Erline Louise Lemke, 92, of Lisbon Falls, died Sunday, July 6, at Central Maine Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Lincoln on Nov. 19, 1921, to the late Ardie and Eliza (Hanscom) Kneeland. She was educated in Lincoln and graduated from Mattanawcook High School, Class of 1939.

Erline married the love of her life, Kenneth G. Lemke, on June 2, 1946, in Lincoln; he predeceased her in 2007.

She worked for 26 years in the Lisbon schools as the director of the lunch program, retiring in 1985. She was dedicated to feeding her family and friends, and the children of Lisbon. She loved introducing kids to new foods and many of them became favorites, such as Bubbling Squeak, pizza biscuits and tuna biscuit rolls.

Erline was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, The American Food Association and the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 66, in Lisbon Falls.

She was devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed every minute she spent with them. She loved to travel and enjoyed spending winters in Largo, Fla.

She leaves a son, Gordon Lemke and wife, Brenda, of Palm Coast, Fla.; two daughters, Carole Crosskill and husband, Michael, of Lisbon Falls and Gloria Lemke of Lisbon Falls; four grandchildren, Chad Crosskill, Corey (Crosskill) Bedell, Chelsea Lemke and Garrett Lemke; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Michaela and Kyle Bedell and Sydney Crosskill; and two nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mina Robinson and Emily Smith; and a brother, Clayton Kneeland.
