1919 – 2014

FARMINGTON — Mildred L. Gordon, 95, of Jay and formerly of Dryden, died Monday evening, July 7, at Edgewood Manor Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington.

Mildred was born in East Dixfield on June 19, 1919, a daughter of Abner and Ellen (Webster) Stickney. She attended schools in Starks and Madison.

She and her husband, Louis E. Gordon, lived in New Sharon for a short time, before settling in Dryden and later in Jay. Mildred worked in various shoe shops over the years, retiring from Norwock Shoe Co.

As a young woman, Mildred enjoyed camping and snowmobiling, and most recently flower gardening, feeding the birds and crocheting lap blankets for veterans receiving care at the VA Medical Center in Togus.

She is survived by a son, Colby Gordon and his wife, Frances, of Fayette; two grandchildren, Cathy Steward and her husband, Ernest Jr., of Jay and Vickie Michaud of Wilton; “grandson of heart,” Billy Melvin Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Billie-Jo Knight and her husband, Jamie, of Prentiss, Ernest Steward III and his wife, Ersula, of Jay and Joshua Michaud and his companion, Courtney Wicker, of Wilton; four great-great-grandchildren, Sophia, Calab, Wyatt and Dakota; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis; a son, Richard Gordon; siblings, Olive Girardin and Guy and Linwood Stickney; a great-grandson, Christopher Gordon; and a “son of heart,” Billy Melvin Sr.

She will be greatly missed by “The Old Gals Club,” Lucille, Pauline, Olive and Vickie.
