Maybe it’s time for a tax cap in Lewiston. I’d just like to bring a little truth to the taxpayers of this city.

From personal experience, I know that the great majority of management in the city’s Public Works Department live in other towns, so their pay is spent in other municipalities. I have heard many times from city employees that they are glad they don’t have to pay taxes in Lewiston, and they don’t care how much things cost.

It seems to be a spending free-for-all, especially in the municipal garage. The city should have citizen input in everything it purchases. After all, Lewiston taxpayers pay for it all.

Lewiston is in the worst shape that it ever has been, and cannot honestly justify a six-figure salary for the director of Public Works, or any other department.

Honesty, common sense and compassion have completely disappeared from municipal government. If members of the City Council don’t wake up and smell what Public Works is shoveling, they should step aside and give the reins to someone who will, before it’s too late.
