Susan Rotholz and Carmelo Galante will be featured in works by Mozart for flute and strings, and clarinet and strings. Then the string quintet, with Rotholz as narrator, will present “Lighthouse Keeper, the Story of Abbie Burgess.” Delvyn Case wrote the music to tell this famous, true story of a young woman who bravely maintained the lighthouse on Matinicus Rock, during a fierce Nor’easter in the 19th century, while her father was stuck on the mainland.
This is a gripping story, from beginning to end, which not only portrays how a young woman found the courage, within herself, to accomplish a dangerous mission, but also shows how the power of music can bring a story to life. String players are: Phil Palermo and Gerry Itzkoff, violins; Laurie Kennedy, viola; Bonnie Thron and Eliot Bailen, cellos; and Tony D’Amico, double bass.
