1926 – 2014

SACO — Gloria K. Black Rowles, 88, formerly of Fairbanks, died Tuesday morning, July 15, at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home.

She was born in Southwest Harbor on April 17, 1926, a daughter of Samual and Vivian Gray Black, and graduated from Boothbay High School on June 9, 1944.

On July 11, 1945, she married Ronald Rowles in Boothbay and they made their home in Fairbanks for many years; he died in 2003.

Gloria enjoyed hunting, fishing, gem stone hunting, jewelry-making, leather tooling, knitting and crocheting, and made many afghans over the years. She also enjoyed antiques and oil painting.

She was a former member of the Pagonia Chapter OES in South Bristol and Jay Baptist Church.

Gloria is survived by her sons, Larry Rowles and his wife, Sharon, of Waterboro and Darryl and his wife, Michele, of Brewer; grandsons, Scott of West Gardiner, Jason and his wife, Nicole, of Waterboro and Michael of Saco; granddaughters, Kellee Rowles Murphy and her husband, Corey, of Jay and Jessica Rowles Dwyer and her husband, Tom, of Orono; two great-grandsons, Cameron and Ryan; and a great-granddaughter, Cassidy.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, in 2003; and a grandson, Stephen, on Nov. 23, 1998.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Evergreen Manor and to the ladies from Beacon Hospice for the loving care they provided.
