1934 – 2014

AUBURN — Julien Gilbert, 80, a resident of South Main Street in Mechanic Falls, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, at the Hospice House, with his family by his side.

He was born in Notre Dame des Pins, Quebec, on April 3, 1934, a son of the late Mathias and Alice (Poulin) Gilbert. Julien moved to the United States in 1953.

He worked in the woodworking industry at Andover Wood Products and Wilner Wood Products, until his retirement. In retirement, he owned and operated The Willows Flea Market in Mechanic Falls with his brother, Yvon Gilbert.

Julien enjoyed going to auctions, was a racing fan and loved having coffee with his many friends. He was a hardworking, generous individual who was always willing to give a helping hand. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He leaves his three brothers and two sisters, Richard Gilbert and wife, Lucille, of Poland, Yvon Gilbert and wife, Frances, of Mechanic Falls, Claudette Mailhot and husband, Richard, of Auburn, Michael Gilbert and wife, Linda, of Bethel and Francine Gilbert of Canada; his nieces and nephews, Linda Bernier and husband, Peter, Anna Gilbert-Duveneck and husband, Matthew, Amanda Snow and husband, Christopher, Stephane Rousseau, Maxim Rousseau, Scott Mailhot and wife, Tina Surh, and Steven Mailhot and wife, Michele Kenney; grandnieces, Libby Bernier, and Delphine Mailhot; and grandnephews, Alex Bernier, Julian Mailhot and Olivier Mailhot.

He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Bertrand Gilbert.
