1932 – 2014

HANOVER — Raymond E. Chase Sr., 81, of Route 2 in Hanover, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Rumford on Nov. 5, 1932, a son of Harry E. and Agnes (Foster) Chase. Ray was a graduate of Gould Academy, Class of 1951, where he was a star athlete in football, skiing and basketball.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ray was employed for over 40 years at Andover Wood Products. He also served as a selectman for the town of Hanover for 33 years and was a Little League coach for the Rumford Point team for several years.

Ray loved hunting and fishing, and following the Boston Red Sox and Duke University basketball.

Surviving are his children, Raymond E. Chase Jr. of Dixfield, Beverly Duggan and husband, James, of Merrimack, N.H., Rachael Chase and her significant other, Tim Conroy, of Hudson, N.H., and Mitchell Chase and his significant other, Theresa Keefe, of Andover; sisters-in-law, Pauline Chase of Wayne and Joyce Longo of Milford, N.H.; brothers-in-law, Kenny Rafuse and his wife, Carol, of Dixfield, and Carl Evans of Rushville, Ind.; four grandchildren, Anna and Emily Chase of Dixfield, Jenn Duggan of Merrimack, N.H., and Dylan Conroy of Hudson, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Hilda; a sister, Elizabeth Robertson; and three brothers, Harry Chase Jr., Robert Chase and Maynard Chase.
