This year, Best’s work has evolved greatly as she is practicing as a full-time artist, which has always been a dream for her after many years of work as a counselor in the area. Best’s work is rich with color, texture, pattern and intrigue. She uses multiple layers in her paintings, which frequently produce sensations of movement and light, thus bringing a sense of spirit to her work.

Best’s studio is in her home in Rumford, and her mediums for her paintings are primarily acrylic and colored inks. She enjoys taking liberties with abstract expression.

She attended the Maine College of Art and has shown her work in area galleries, L/A Arts shows, the Commons Art Collective, and she was a featured artist at Gallery 302 in Bridgton several years ago. This is her second show at Frost Farm Gallery.

Jazz keyboard player Mike Maurice will provide live music for the opening reception. The show is free and open to the public, and the exhibit and sale will continue at Frost Farm Gallery, in the historic David W. Frost farm, 272 Pikes Hill through Saturday, Aug. 30.
