LEWISTON — The Lewiston Farmer’s Market at Bates Mill 5 will launch their first Shop with the Chef event at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 27. Who better to show you the ropes of a farm to table dinner than Maine’s own talented kitchen crew?

This month, join the Chef-In-Market, Genevieve Johnson, for a walking tour of the booths as she hand-picks ingredients, talks with farmers and points out the secrets to selecting the freshest quality ingredients. After collecting a bounty from farmers and cheese makers, she will lead an interactive demonstration on how to turn these simple ingredients into a delicious, fresh, locally sourced meal.

With food in your belly and a recipe in hand, you will be prepared to roam the booths inspired to create your own farm-fresh meals.

Johnson is a performance and culinary artist whose discipline has taken her from being a founding baker at Peels in New York City to farms in rural France and Spain. More locally, she has worked at Fore Street Restaurant in Portland’s Old Port, as well as at the Silvery Moon Creamery at Smiling Hill Farm. She can usually be found under an avalanche of dishes in her tiny apartment kitchen in Portland.

The Lewiston Farmers’ Market is sponsored by St. Mary’s Health System and is supported by staff and volunteers from the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center.
