1922 – 2014
RUMFORD — Roland D. Milligan Sr., 92, died at his residence on Isthmus Road in Rumford on Sunday, July 27, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Rumford on March 22, 1922, a son of David and Mary Elizabeth (McGrath) Milligan, and attended local schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a private first class from 1942 to 1945.
Roland worked on the unloading crew for Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford for many years, until retirement. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius-St. John Church.
He was married in Rumford on July 18, 1949, to Thelma Trenoweth, who survives him, of Rumford. Other survivors include daughters, Sharon Milligan of Rumford, Laurie and husband, David Glover Sr., of Rumford, Cheryl Merchant and husband, Greg, of Peru, Pamela Hanson and husband, Steve, of Rumford and Kim Gravel and husband, Paul, of Mexico; sons, Roland Milligan Jr. and wife, Cindi, of Rumford and Mark Milligan and wife, Deborah, of Rumford; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like extend a thank-you to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and to the VA doctors, nurses and staff for their care of Roland.
