Rep. Sheryl Briggs (D-Mexico) was honored at a dinner and program on June 19 at the American Legion Hall in Dixfield recognizing her seven years of service in House District 93, representing Mexico, Dixfield, Canton, Carthage and Peru. Remarks were made by Attorney General Janet Mills, Susan Mitchell of Augusta, Sen. John Patrick of Rumford, Rep. Terry Hayes of Buckfield, Sheriff Wayne Gallant of Rumford, County Treasurer Roy Gedat of Norway, former Register of Deeds Jane Rich of Andover, former Sen. Bruce Bryant of Rumford and Mackie Gill of Dixfield, candidate for the new district that includes Mexico, Dixfield, Canton, Peru and Hartford. Oxford County Democratic Chairwoman Cathy Newell of Greenwood moderated the program. Briggs was elected in a special election in 2007 and is retiring due to term limits.
