RUMFORD Police said two local women were arrested early Thursday morning after one attempted to hide the other in a dryer to prevent her arrest.

Heather Buotte, 28, and Kathryn Todd, 23, both of Washington Street, were arrested following a police investigation into the theft of prescription medication from a neighboring apartment complex.

According to Rumford police Chief Stacy Carter, a resident of an apartment building near Todd’s residence reported the theft of prescription medication around 5:55 a.m. Thursday. Police went to Todd’s apartment, where Buotte was believed to be.

According to Stacy, Todd told police Buotte was not at the apartment, but during a search by police she was found hiding in a dryer.

Boutte was arrested on four outstanding warrants related to theft and forgery charges.

During the search, police also found cocaine, heroin, pills and drug paraphernalia. Todd was arrested on three counts of possession of scheduled drugs and one count of hindering apprehension.

Both were transported to the Oxford County Jail in South Paris. Buotte was held on $2,000 bail. Todd posted $500 cash bail and was released.
