This is in response to Ronald Gallant’s letter (Aug. 2), “Shame on American government.”

Gallant is sadly uninformed. He claims Israel is committing genocidal extermination of the Palestinian people, which is contrary to the fact. Israel is being attacked by rockets and has the right to defend itself.

Israel protects people by building bomb shelters, while Hamas (a terrorist government) does not, but builds tunnels to attack and launch rockets.

Israel warns the Palestinian people to seek shelter before an attack. The U.S. certainly didn’t during World War II. The U.S. bombed France to liberate it, Germany to defeat it, and Japan with an atomic bomb.

War is dirty, and there will be collateral damage.

Gallant tries to convince people that the land belongs to the Palestinians, which is untrue; Israel had been there for more than 4,000 years. King David ruled in Jerusalem, and son Solomon built a Temple in Jerusalem.

There has always been a Jewish presence in the land, even after the Romans expelled them from their land in 70 AD.
