GREENWOOD — Mount Abram says it’s spending more than $300,000 this summer to upgrade snowmaking on its ski slopes in western Maine.
Officials say the money will go toward boosting water-pumping capacity to quadruple uphill capacity and pressure, allowing the mountain to put more machine-made snow on the mountain.
General Manager Dave Scanlan says the snowmaking boost will ensure that the mountain opens earlier in December and that it can rebound faster from “challenging weather events.” He says it’ll also give the ski area the option of expanding snowmaking onto additional slopes in the future.
The resort, which began operation in 1960, says it’s spending $300,000 on the project. That includes a grant of about $14,200 from Efficiency Maine.
