The Orpheon of Lewiston will be off for its annual excursion, Wednesday, leaving town at one o’clock to take the Triangle Trip. The forty men will be donned in their outing suits, the official uniform of the Orpheon, and will take their music along, planning to sing as the boat sails down the Kennebec from Gardiner to Bath. They will have supper at the New Ivan House, on the New Meadows river, and will return home to Lewiston in the evening.

(Photo Caption) Workmen of the Kerr Electric Co., of Auburn, are shown preparing the roadwork involved in locating automatic-type traffic lights, which will be put into effect at two Lewiston intersections shortly. The workmen above are located at the South Ave. and Lisbon St. intersection, site of one of the new installations. The lights will also be installed at Russell and Main Streets. In addition to being triggered by an over-hanging invisible light, a magnet-type switch also had to be placed in the street, at all four sections of the intersection.

Lewiston Mayor Maurice Labbe Thursday appointed 16 people to the city’s new Affordable Housing Task Force. Labbe said housing, particularly in the inner city, is in worse shape now than two years ago when he first ran for mayor. “There’s no question about it, and it’s going to continue,” he said. “There is no relief in sight, with the economy still bustling and requiring more affordable housing. Labbe and Robert Thompson, the city’s director of development, said that while people who live in the inner city were not named to the task force, they are important in whether it succeeds. “This is not a locked group,” Thompson said.
