As a member of the Legislature’s Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee, I’m writing to thank Rep. Wayne Werts for his commitment to Auburn and Lewiston.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Rep. Werts when we were both fire chiefs — he in Auburn and myself in Lewiston. Later, we worked together as members of the Maine Fire Protection Services Commission, which advises the state on the best way to prevent and fight fires.

Rep. Werts has also channeled his safety-minded attitude into his work on the Transportation Committee. He worked with his colleagues in both parties to push for better upkeep of our roads and bridges so that they are safer for drivers.

Finally, Rep. Werts is working hard to push the Turnpike Authority for fairer tolls for Lewiston-Auburn commuters.

Rep. Werts is doing an excellent job in the Legislature, and we’re lucky to have him on our side.

Rep. Michel Lajoie, Lewiston
