NEW SHARON — A local man was charged early Tuesday after a woman reported that he had assaulted her.

Jeffrey S. Lane, 19, of New Sharon was arrested on a felony charge of domestic violence aggravated assault, Franklin County sheriff’s Lt. David Rackliffe said Tuesday.

Lane is accused of putting his arm around the woman’s neck and placing her in a choke hold, he said.

When the woman yelled that she couldn’t breathe, he released the choke hold, he said.

The woman took the couple’s 8-month-old son and left the residence and returned to her parents house, where she called police, he said.

Deputy Andrew Morgan responded to the 3:21 a.m. call and made the arrest.

A conviction on aggravated assault is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Lane was being held without bail Tuesday at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.
