DIXFIELD — The Board of Selectmen reviewed drafts of recall ordinances from around the state during Monday evening’s meeting at the Ludden Memorial Library.
Town Manager Carlo Puiia provided drafts from Auburn, Falmouth, Lisbon, Mexico, Peru, Rumford, Scarborough and Westbrook.
“As you can see by looking through these ordinances, a majority of them are only two pages long,” he said. “In some of the bigger cities, they can go up to five pages.”
“I just wanted to present these to you guys as food for thought,” Puiia said. “As you look through these, if you see something that should or shouldn’t go into a recall ordinance for our town, if that’s the route we go, you can add it or extract it as you see fit.”
Selectman Dana Whittemore said he thought the Mexico recall ordinance was well-written and did a good job of covering all of the pertinent points.
Mexico approved its ordinance at the June 10 town meeting.
Dixfield selectmen agreed to read the drafts to find details that would work well for the town.
In other business, the board voted to table discussion on whether to allow Public Works Director Calvin Beaumier to use $1,800 from the Road Reserves account to buy $6,000 worth of culverts.
Beaumier said while he was considering the purchase, he decided on $6,000 at $6.60 per foot.
Puiia said the Public Works Department had $3,200 budgeted for culverts for the 2014-15 fiscal year and carried over $1,000 from the previous year for a total of $4,200.
He said the town’s Road Reserves account contained $150,000 as of Monday evening.
Chairman Scott Belskis said he was curious whether the town would need the number of culverts Beaumier wanted.
“I’m wondering if you had a list of places in town where you wanted to install culverts,” Belskis said. “That way, if you bought 50 culverts, and you only need to use 20, we can figure out what steps to take.”
Beaumier said he didn’t have the list on him, but the Public Works Department would “definitely use all of the culverts.”
“There are a lot of places that need culverts replaced,” he said.
The board agreed to table discussion until Beaumier provided a list of places where culverts would be installed.
