JAY — A local woman and a dog were injured Monday night when the car she was driving left East Dixfield Road, hit a dog and a utility pole, acting police Chief Richard Caton IV said Tuesday.
Isaiah Reed, 23, of Jay was traveling east on the road, which is Route 17, in North Jay when her 1996 Ford Contour skidded across the road into the other lane, he said.
The car struck a dog being walked on a leash on the side of the road hitting a utility pole and breaking it in two pieces, he said, according to officer Mike Mejia’s report.
The car came close to hitting Bradley Richards of Jay, who was walking the dog with his girlfriend, he said.
Reed received scrapes and bruises and was checked at the scene by NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel.
The dog was taken to an emergency veterinarian clinic. The dog had no broken bones or internal injuries but was banged up and sore, according to the owner, Caton said.
Jay firefighters helped at the scene of the 6:18 p.m. crash and conducted traffic control.
Reed’s car was heavily damaged.
