POLAND — The town of Poland’s Community and Economic Development Committee and the Poland Board of Selectmen have unveiled the first of three phases of interpretative signage to identify some of the most important historical assets of Poland.

Poland received an Award of a Certified Business Friendly Community also just recently.

Tourism has been a part of the town’s history for two centuries and a partnership between the Poland Spring Resort, Poland Spring Water and the Poland Spring Preservation Society and the town was created.

Two other phases, which will be installed elsewhere in Poland, are in the works, including new signage for the six major entrances into the town.

In August 2013, the Poland Spring Historic District was announced by the National Register of Historic Places. One of only a handful in Androscoggin County, the district is composed of the golf course and over two dozen historical buildings, including the Maine State Building, All Souls Chapel and the former springhouse and bottling plant of Poland Spring Water.
