SEARSPORT — A mobile home was destroyed Monday afternoon by a fire.

Searsport Fire Chief Andrew Webster said there were no injuries from the fire that occurred on the Sanborn Valley Road.

He said the a couple, whose names were not immediately available, were renting the mobile home and had moved in the previous night. He said the man arrived at the house shortly after noon and saw flames coming out of the home. He called in the fire at 12:19 p.m.

The chief said the cause of the fire has not been determined. The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to try to determine the cause, the chief said.

Fire crews from Prospect, Stockton Springs and West Frankfort assisted Searsport in battling the fire on the road located off the Harris Road.

Public safety crews in Searsport were also busy Monday afternoon with a multicar crash on Route 1 in Searsport.

The crash occurred in front of Hobby Horse Antiques and Flea Market. A woman at Hobby Horse said it appeared no one was seriously injured, though there were several people taken by ambulance to the hospital to be checked. She said Route 1 was reduced to one lane.

She said tow trucks were having a problem getting to the accident site.
