NEWRY — Selectmen on Tuesday evening approved liquor licenses for Sunday River restaurants at Barker Mountain and North Peak, and a couple of catering liquor licenses for weddings at Mountain House on Sunday River.

Administrator Loretta Powers said Mountain House on Sunday River is the old Romeo Baker house just beyond the Artists’ Covered Bridge on Sunday River Road.

For updates, Powers said work to insulate the Bear River Grange Hall, which has very little insulation because of its age, will start this month.

Installation of the new granite-colored carpeting in the Town Office is expected to be finished Friday, Sept. 5, and paving started Wednesday on Skiway Road, she said.

Selectmen also accepted a job description for deputy clerk and a revision to the town bylaws.

Usually, Newry selectmen meetings last for 90 minutes or more, depending on the amount of business, but Tuesday’s meeting was completed in 45 minutes, Powers said.

“It was the shortest meeting we’ve had in years,” she said.
