Deb Decker, left, and Kelly Cooper, both of Turner, move a panel they painted during the 13th annual United Way Day of Caring at the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Maine — Auburn/Lewiston Clubhouse in Auburn on Friday. Decker and Cooper are two of the nine employees from Mechanics Savings Bank who helped get the clubhouse ready for their annual haunted house on Oct. 25. “The kids had a three-page laundry list of work for them to do,” club Director Andie Hannon said. “We had 270 volunteers from 23 companies spread across the community,” Larry Marcoux, director of community impact for United Way, said. “The largest we have ever had by far,” Marcoux said. The United Way 2014 campaign goal was announced during Friday’s campaign kickoff breakfast, Marcoux said. The goal is to raise $1.5 million.
