LIVERMORE FALLS — Graduates of Jay, Livermore Falls and Spruce Mountain high schools enrolled in two- or four-year college or vocational programs are invited to apply for $1,000 scholarships offered by Marcia and Louis Brown.

Regional School Unit 73 Chairwoman Denise Rodzen said at Thursday’s board meeting that college students must have successfully completed at least one semester of college or vocational school to be eligible to apply.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, Sept. 23.

RSU 73, also known as the Spruce Mountain School District, was formed in 2011 from the former Jay School Department and the former SAD 36 that included Livermore and Livermore Falls.

The scholarship committee, comprised of Rodzen from Livermore Falls, Tamara Hoke of Jay and Cindy Young of Livermore, will determine the two successful applicants and announce their names at the Thursday, Sept. 25, board meeting.

Applications may be picked up at the RSU 73 Central Office on Cedar Street, Livermore Falls, during business hours Monday through Friday. The Central Office may be contacted at 207-897-6722.

Among the eligibility requirements are severe financial need and demonstration of academic or vocational potential and promise.

In the future, the availability of the scholarships will be announced in August.
