RUMFORD — The Rumford and Mexico Boards of Selectmen will hold a joint meeting with a New Hampshire-based company at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Calvin P. Lyons Room of the Mexico Town Office to hear an update on the progress of each town’s consolidation efforts.

In September 2013, Municipal Resources Inc. provided Rumford and Mexico with a proposal for a comprehensive study on consolidating services. The boards approved the proposal.

Part of the proposal, according to Don Jutton, president of Municipal Resources, involved setting up subcommittees for departments within each town.

The subcommittees for the departments in each town are: Police; Fire and Emergency Management; Parks and Recreation; Libraries; Public Works; and Budget, Finance and Town Hall Operations. Each subcommittee has two selectmen, a department head, two residents and a Budget Committee member from each town.

Town Manager John Madigan said in July that the subcommittees will allow selectmen “to look at the data from both towns and their respective departments and review the work that the consultants are doing to see what is and isn’t possible.”

Each subcommittee has met at least once since being formed, and Jutton will provide updates on the regionalization efforts at the Sept. 23 public hearing.
