RUMFORD CENTER- If you’ve been traveling Route 2 west of Rumford lately, you’ll have noticed the road is in the process of being paved, but it’s just about complete, all the way to River Valley Grill in Rumford Center. Now, whether this is a coincidence or not, I’ll leave that up to you, but one thing is for sure, it’s been like a red carpet for owners Bob and Kathi Knowles.
The River Valley Grill opened back up for business last Friday at their new location in Rumford Center, the former Route 2 Diner, and they’re very excited to see their familiar customers coming back, as well as many new faces of travelers-thru.
Walking into the newly-remodeled and open space, you’ll find the regulars sitting at the traditional-style bar, the smell of hot coffee, sizzling bacon and a friendly smile waiting to take your order in the seat-yourself dining room.
The freshly-painted walls have been adorned with local photography captured by Nathan Knowles, Bob and Kathi’s son and cook at the restaurant. You’ll find beautifully framed scenes from Rumford, Dixfield, Mexico and other surrounding towns, as well as wildlife and historic buildings throughout the area.
Along side their fresh homemade breads in the display case, you’ll also find unique jewelry designed and created by Melissa Dupuis for sale.
There are a few new menu items joining the tasty traditional-style that River Valley Grill has always been known for, and you can still expect to get the same great service from their staff.
“It’s been so exciting for us,” stated Kathi.
“I love the room and it makes work flow much better, too,” stated Bob. “It’s a great atmosphere and I’m excited to make it all work. We’ve put a lot of time into getting it the way we want it.”
Long-time customer, Avis Orino stated, “They take very good care of me. I’ll be wherever they go. I’m happy for them.”
River Valley Grill is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.
