AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage is applauding a $25,000 donation to a group in Maine that is working to prevent domestic violence.

Ernie Boch Jr., the CEO of the Subaru of New England, announced the donation to the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence at an event at the governor’s mansion on Tuesday.

The Republican governor, who left his home when he was a boy because his father was abusive, has made domestic violence prevention a central part of his administration.

On Tuesday, he called it “the worst kind of abuse” and said he supports putting in place mandatory minimum sentences for offenders.

Julie Colpitts, executive director of the coalition, said the money will be targeted toward prevention efforts and helping children and families who are impacted by domestic violence.
