FARMINGTON — A former Phillips man was sentenced Tuesday to serve six years in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release for sexually assaulting a young girl from June 22 to Sept. 22, 2013, according to Franklin County Superior Court documents.

Robert Parker Jr., 44, of Lewiston, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of gross sexual assault and a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child in May as part of a plea agreement. Eight other charges were dismissed, including four other felony counts of gross sexual assault.

A conviction on the sex charge carried a maximum of 30 years in prison.

Justice Nancy Mills also sentenced Parker to serve 364 days in prison on the child endangerment conviction that will be served at the same time as the sexual assault sentence, according to documents.

Mills also ordered Parker to have no contact with children younger than 16. He also cannot correspond with anyone younger than 16 while in prison.

Parker will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Assistant District Attorney James Andrews told the court in May that if the case had gone to trial, an officer at the Windham correctional facility would produce a letter, apparently written by Parker and intercepted by jail officials, that indicated his admission to engaging in the sexual acts.

A roommate at the correctional facility would also testify that Parker talked about forcing a child, under age 12, to have sex with him, Andrews previously said.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested Parker in September 2013 on a charge of endangering the welfare of two girls. He was released on an agreement with the state and was arrested soon after on the sexual assault charges. He has been held on $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 in real estate since then.
