POLAND — A Candidates Night forum will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Town Office. The evening is sponsored by the Friends of Ricker Library.

Voters will have an opportunity to meet some of the candidates for the Maine House and Senate. Candidates for Androscoggin County sheriff and judge of probate will participate as well.

The forum will be televised on the local public access channel. Voters are invited to participate in questioning candidates at the forum or by call-in to the event.

Many Maine voters have been assigned new legislative districts this year. All Poland voters are in Senate District 20. House District 65 serves some Poland voters. Others are in House District 66. A map at Ricker Memorial Library shows voters which district they live in.

Many of the candidates do not live in Poland and are first-time office seekers in the area.

Candidates for Senate District 20 are Eric Brakey and John Cleveland.

Michael McClellan, Mary Vienessa-Fernandes and Lisa Willey are vying for the House District 66 seat.

Raymond Lafrance, Timothy Lajoie and Eric Sampson are running for sheriff.

Candidates for House District 65, Eleanor Espling and Rosa Van Wie, have a conflicting engagement, but will send statements to be read at the meeting.

Michael Dubois and Elliott Epstein, on the ballot for judge of probate, have been invited to attend the forum.

Absentee ballots are available at the Town Office 30 days before the Nov. 4 election.
