RUMFORD — For the second time this year, the Rumford Grange is setting up a petting zoo for children to enjoy a variety of animals.

Grange member Methyl Park said it will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, in conjunction with a craft fair.

Park said their first petting zoo in the spring “went over really, really well.”

“It was excellent,” she said. “The master of our Grange, Joe Martin, furnished most of the animals. He has over 71 barn animals on his property, so he was able to bring a lot of animals to the Grange. Some neighbors also allowed us to use their llamas and mini horses, and others let us use their baby goats.”

The Grange was planning a petting zoo next spring, but decided to combine it with the craft fair, she said.

Park asked that all children be accompanied by an adult.

All money raised or donated will go to the Grange, Park said.

“We use our funds to do repairs on the building and do any fixes that need to be done,” she said. “Right now, our building is in pretty good shape. We’re also trying to raise funds for a scholarship that we give out each year.”
