BANGOR — Gov. Paul LePage and First lady Ann LePage are honoring veterans of the Vietnam War this weekend.

The Republican governor and first lady are taking part in the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home Ceremony at the Cole Land Transportation in Bangor on Saturday.

The event is being held 50 years after the passage of the Gulf of Tonkin, which led to the country’s full involvement in the war.

LePage said in a statement that the ceremony will be a time to remember the military members and their families who sacrificed throughout the conflict.

The event is being put on through a partnership between the state and the U.S. Department of Defense.
