1931 – 2014

GRAY — Barbara E. Pollard, 82, of Gray died Wednesday, Oct. 1, at home.

Born Dec. 21, 1931, in New Gloucester, the daughter of Eben and Aileen Bennet Tufts, she was a graduate of Pennell Institute.

Barbara married Robert Pollard on Aug. 5, 1950, and they had two children, Wayne R. Pollard and Denise A. Pollard.

She worked for Pine Tree Telephone and Telegraph in Gray prior to working as a town clerk in Gray from 1956 to 1972, after which she worked as the town clerk in New Gloucester, until her retirement in 2003. While working as town clerk, she also took on the duties as acting town manager and bookkeeper.

Her work ethic and ability to multitask was recognized by the selectmen, who awarded her “Employee of the Year.” Barbara also loved working at Jess ‘n Nic’s, her son and daughter-in-law’s business for the last 25 years. She was the secretary of the Gray Cemetery Association for decades.

She enjoyed mowing her lawn and keeping her yard pristine. Barbara was dedicated to her family and community at large. She enjoyed a special friendship with her daughter, Denise, who died in 2010.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; daughter, Denise; and brother, Payson Tufts.

She is survived by her son, Wayne and his wife, Gwen, of Gray; two granddaughters, Jessica Pollard of Gray and Nicole Hamilton of New Gloucester; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Isabella Hamilton; brother; Gordon Tufts of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.
