FAYETTE — Leona E. Rackliffe, 94, of Fayette passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, at her home.
She was born in Gardiner on March 4, 1920, the daughter of Benjamin and Annie Orbeton. She was educated in the schools of Temple and Farmington.
Leona married Herbert H. Rackliffe Sr. on Dec. 25, 1936, in Farmington. He passed away Oct. 11, 1973.
Leona worked many years for MaCumbers Mill in West Farmington, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Farmington Senior Citizens, past member of Farmington Falls Nazarene Church and Union Baptist Church. She enjoyed latch hook, rug making, cooking, gardening, crocheting and reading her Bible.
She is survived by her three daughters, Leona “Nonie” Mitchell of Fayette, Janice Eagen and husband, Timothy, of Norridgewock, and Lorraine Burnham and her husband, Richard, of Jay; her son, Herbert Rackliffe Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Oakland; 22 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her special caretakers, Rebecca Stevens (a granddaughter) and Elaine Kimball.
She was predeceased by her husband; three daughters, Rosalie Pond, Beverly Rackliffe and Carol Cummings; four grandchildren, Delmar Jr., June, Oliver, and Merle; and a great-granddaughter, Amber.
