SANFORD (AP) — A York County food bank that makes sure tens of thousands of area residents have enough to eat is in danger of closing this month unless it gets a quick infusion of cash.

York County Food Rescue director Jodi Bissonnette says the organization needs to raise $8,000 to stay open through the end of October.

The organization has plenty of food on hand, and even has 5,000 turkeys ready for Thanksgiving distribution. But it has received fewer cash donations than anticipated and already has gone through its $110,000 annual budget because it has distributed more food than expected.

The food bank distributes 1.5 million pounds of food annually to nearly 50 soup kitchens and food pantries. Bissonnette says one-third of those would likely close if her organization goes under.
