LEWISTON — On Saturday, Oct. 11, Lewiston Public Library is once again participating in nationwide Star Wars Reads Day. The third annual event will be held on the third floor of the library in Callahan Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All ages are welcome, and admission is free.

Star Wars Reads Day is a celebration of books set within or about the beloved science fiction franchise. Thousands of libraries and bookstores participate each year, and Lewiston Public Library welcomed over 300 kids, teens and adults in the first two years of the event.

According to Carol Roeder, director of publishing at Lucasfilm, “Reading and Star Wars have gone hand-in-hand since 1976, when the novelization of the original Star Wars movie was released. Over the years, many fans have discovered the joy in reading through Star Wars books, and we hope to continue encouraging more people to read.”

At the event, guests will be able to browse the library’s hundreds of Star Wars-related books, ranging from picture books for children to adult paperback bestsellers, graphic novels and e-books.

At craft stations, guests will be able to make their own light sabers and Jedi robes, character magnets and puppets, and various other items to take home. Volunteers from ArtWalk will provide face painting, and costumed characters from the Star Wars universe will once again be available for photos and autographs.

Guests of all ages are encouraged to arrive in costume to participate in a Star Wars costume contest and try their luck at a trivia contest, both with adult and child age divisions. Assorted Star Wars Reads giveaways from participating publishers will be available, including posters, bookmarks and more.
