BETHEL — Discussion on a parking request and a bridge design are among the items on the agenda for the Oct. 13 Board of Selectmen’s meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bethel Town Office.

The Board of Selectmen will continue discussion on whether to grant resident Debra Mills an easement to park on town property being considered for a veterans monument.

Interim Town Manager Steve Eldridge said that the town acquired the lot on Main Street from George Dunn for nonpayment of taxes. The town is in the process of allowing an Honor Roll Committee to build a new veterans memorial on it.

Mills, who lives in the property adjacent to Dunn’s lot, sent a letter to selectmen this year saying she has used part of the property as a parking space for “quite some time and hopes to do so in the future.”

Asked by selectmen why she couldn’t park at the side of her building, Mills said she had to “look into the removal of encroachments” placed by neighbors on her property.

She asked selectmen for permission to park on the lot into 2015 and place an article on the 2015 town meeting warrant asking for an easement.

After delaying the issue during their Sept. 15 meeting, the selectmen delayed it a second time at their Sept. 29 meeting after resident Jared Crockett, acting as legal agent for the American Legion, recommended that the town accept a quitclaim deed from Dunn so they could own the property outright.

The board agreed to return to the issue after they spoke with the town attorney.

In other business, the selectmen will hear a presentation from Maine Department of Transportation engineer Eric Calderwood about a design for the Pleasant Stream Bridge.

Eldridge said that MDOT approached the town of Bethel “some time ago” about replacing the bridge over Pleasant Stream.

“It was a 50/50 deal,” Eldridge said. “They agreed to pay 50 percent of it, and Bethel would pay for the other 50 percent. However, because the bridge is located in Oxford county, the county is also responsible for the bridge, and they agreed to pay half of our half.”

* Junkyard permits

* Sewer system development charge for Crossroads Diner

* Meeting Heidi Godomosky, the new recreation director for Bethel
