AUBURN — The congregation of the West Auburn Congregational Church was pleased to welcome John Williams as their new minister on Sept. 7. John’s wife Wendy was also welcomed.

John was born in Lewiston and grew up in West Auburn in a house that is across the street from the church. He attended church and Sunday school there for many years.

He graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, and then went on to the Bangor Seminary where he was ordained as a UCC minister. He began his ministry at the West Auburn Congregational Church were he served from 1982 to 1988.

After leaving West Auburn, he moved to the West Bethel Union Church for 20 years. He also served as interim pastor at several churches from time to time.

When John heard of the opening at the West Auburn Church, he indicated his interest in returning to “where it all began.” Several of the members who were there in the 1980s are still members and were especially pleased to have John and Wendy return.

The congregation looks forward to having John and Wendy with them for many years.

The church is at 811 West Auburn Road. Services and Sunday school start at 9 a.m.
