BAR HARBOR — Acadia National Park rangers came to the assistance of a man who slipped and fell and had to be transported out of the park on Saturday.
Park personnel were summoned to the North Ridge Trail of Cadillac Mountain between 1:30 and 2 p.m., reported Ranger Chris Wiebusch.
A man in his 60s who was hiking with his family slipped and fell on his back, injuring ribs on his left side, said Wiebusch. The man was unable to resume hiking, and a family member used a cellphone to call for help.
A team of six rangers went to the scene, which was near where the road to the mountain summit parallels the trail. The rangers loaded the man into a litter and carried him about a quarter-mile to the road, said Wiebusch.
The man, who was not identified, was taken by Bar Harbor ambulance to Mount Desert Island Hospital.
