LEWISTON — The Maine Public Broadcasting Network has announced the formation of the MPBN Junior Broadcaster Board to be made up of Maine high school sophomore and junior students. Slated to launch in February, MPBN is accepting applications to join the board through midnight Saturday, Nov. 15.

The MPBN Junior Broadcaster Board is open to students who are high school sophomores and juniors this fall. Applicants must be Maine residents and must be prepared to detail their interest in public broadcasting.

MPBN will select up to 21 students based on their applications and the board will meet three times a year with meetings taking place at the MPBN offices in Lewiston, Portland and Bangor.

“The mission of the MPBN’s Junior Broadcaster Board is to create a community of high school students from across Maine who are interested in public broadcasting and learning more about the industry,” said Cory Morrissey, MPBN’s director of marketing and public relations. “Participants will receive an introduction to all facets of public broadcasting through the experiences of practicing professionals at MPBN, and leave the board experience with a deeper appreciation for the role public broadcasting plays in Maine. Participants will work as a group examining their own media consumption habits and those of their peer groups while exploring issues facing MPBN and identifying solutions and opportunities to strengthen public broadcasting in Maine.”
