FARMINGTON — The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area invites community members to join the Campaign Cabinet each year to help spread the word about the impact of the United Way.

This year’s Cabinet members are Dave Duly, Hannaford; Bill Marceau, Foothills Management; Peter Addicott, InterConnect; Gordie Flint, retired, Androscoggin Bank; Vickie Gammon, Verso Paper; Melissa Caminiti, Franklin Community Health Network; Eric Tompkins, Aptuitiv; John Witherspoon, Skowhegan Savings Bank; Kirsten Swan, UMF; Susie Millett, TD Bank; Jan M. Collins, educator; Cherilee Budrick, Verso Paper; Jodi Spiller, Verso Paper; Kathy Gregory, Community Dental; and Scott Fossett, A Partner in Technology.

Ken Lust, retired banker, brings experience to this year’s campaign as he assumes the role of volunteer campaign chairman for the second year in a row.

This year’s goal is $805,500 in cash, goods and services and volunteer service.

Ways to contribute

Buttons for Babes button brunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at Bass Room, Franklin Memorial Hospital. Make button bracelets for the “Buttons for Babes” project to support children in need, while eating wonderful food and making new friends. All supplies are provided. Call to register.

The second annual Cut-A-Thon will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. Stylists at area salons will be volunteering to cut hair for a great cause this fall. Schedule an appointment today at one of a number of participating salons, including Medulla’s, Snipper’s and Hair Razor, and all proceeds go to the United Way. A Day of Caring will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the American Legion Hall (Old Depot) in Phillips. Volunteers will be buttoning up the old depot building to help reduce energy consumption so community activities can continue in this historic building.

The Great Charity Auction and Appraisal Event will take place Saturday, Nov. 22, at UMF North Dining Hall.

Get your bidding cards ready to raise at the United Way’s signature event. New this year is an appraisal event before the auction.

Donations are gratefully being accepted for the auction.

Volunteers are needed for Western Maine CA$H. United Way and Women, Work and Community will partner once again to offer free tax preparation and connection to financial resources.

Last year, CA$H Coalitions across the state served more than 4,500 households, saved an estimated $870,000 in income tax return filing fees, and generated almost $7 million in federal and state tax refunds.
