DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a book that was put together shortly after World War II by two ladies. 

It was a record of servicemen who had given their lives in the war. These obituaries were taken from the Daily Sun and Evening Journal and the Messenger.

ANSWER: Some drugstores still take film for developing, but they send it out. The only place that Sun Spots knows of that does it in-house is Photo Finish in the Auburn Mall, 550 Center St., Auburn, 207-783-3354.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wish the schoolteachers would teach the schoolchildren how to write good.

One year recently there were three people in my family who graduated from high school. I sent a check to each one. I received a thank-you note from one of them. I did not know who it was because I could not read their writing.

ANSWER: When Sun Spots was typing up your letter, she thought she heard a collective gasp from all the English teachers, copy editors and grammar mavens who read the column who would surely point out that you teach schoolchildren how to write well, not good.

As for handwriting, Sun Spots gets letters from all ages, including those who had handwriting classes, and she has come to the conclusion that training does not guarantee results. Some people, including Sun Spots, just don’t seem to have whatever skill is required for beautiful script. (To this day, Sun Spots prints.)

Handwriting also requires lots of practice, something many people get very little of these days, what with computers and smartphones.

Perhaps your bigger problem is that the other two graduates didn’t send a thank-you note at all. If they had, you could have used the process of elimination to identify the writers!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am in the fifth grade in California. My teacher, Mrs. Andrus, is helping my class do research on one state in the United States, and I chose Maine.

There is a lot of information available on the Internet and in our library, but my teacher tells us that we will learn more by asking some of the kind people who live there. I was hoping you could ask you readers to help.
