I was shocked and stunned when I heard Gov. Paul LePage make a statement at last week’s debate in Portland that “even a Frenchman can be taught to cool down.”
Just because LePage is French Canadian, he does not have the right to insult the rest of the French Canadian citizens of Maine.
For many years in Maine, the stereotype of the “dumb Frenchman” has been said in derogatory remarks and jokes that the French Canadians have had to live down.
An insult just promotes hate.
So it looks as if LePage has not learned much, and Mainers could have four more years of embarrassment to deal with.
