ELLSWORTH —The Western Mountains Committee of the Maine Community Foundation recently awarded $63,507 in grants to nine nonprofits, including 4-H, for Youth Trustees in Philanthropy to inspire youth leadership and promote personal integrity.

Other grant recipients include:

·Old Canada Road Scenic Byway, Inc., to fund an interpretive program of culture, history and environment on a 12-mile recreational trail;

· Stanley Museum, to develop an educational outreach program to teach students about the Stanley family and their Yankee ingenuity; and

· Tranet, to hire a development coordinator for WRGY, Rangeley Community Radio.

The Western Mountains Fund is a permanent endowment that supports projects to strengthen communities in Somerset and Franklin counties. Applications to the fund are reviewed by a committee of local leaders.

The next proposal deadline is Feb. 15. The application and guidelines can be found at www.mainecf.org.
